Located in a quiet bay off the Indian Ocean coast, Dar es Salaam is the largest city and economic capital of Tanzania. From this place industrial products are exported outside. Being a prosperous centre of the entire East African Region, the city has huge economic importance.

All the Government offices have their main base in Dar es Salaam. Along with this non-governmental organization and diplomatic missions all have their presence in the bustling city of Dar es Salaam.

The urban centre holds shops, buildings, hotels, lodges, restaurants and many more infrastructures. The leftovers of colonial presence, both German and British, can be still spotted in the structural designs and landmark around the city.

The well-known places of interests are the National Museum, the Village Museum, and many colourful markets, historical landmarks, including St. Joseph’s Cathedral, the White Father’s Mission House, the Botanical Gardens, and the old State House make for an interesting walking tour around the waterfront and city centre.

Bongoyo Island Marine Reserve, which is just seven kilometres north of the city, offers good snorkelling and diving sites for those who want to explore the water. The reserve is full of beautiful beaches and peaceful islands. Different types of marine species make the island their home.
